Welcome to the Bellingham Central
PURPOSE. The BCLC is a Bellingham service club with over 130 members. It is part of a regional network of 475 such clubs in British Columbia, Washington and northern Idaho, and an international network of thousands of clubs in over 100 countries. We exist to serve our community and to help Lions elsewhere serve their communities when their need is great. In return they help us out when we are in great need. Hence, our motto, "We Serve." Service examples on the Lions Video Quarterly RAISING FUNDS. The Club raises money through a variety of projects, grants and sponsorships. For example, we have an annual golf tournament and we operate the concession stands at Bellingham's Civic Field. We have also received grants from Lions International to support capital improvements at our Wheelchair Warehouse and to match our contributions to a variety of local and international programs. DISTRIBUTING FUNDS. We distribute 100% of the funds we raise to needy people and organizations that help the needy. Everything we collect from the public goes back to the public. Administrative overhead comes from we Lions; it is part of our commitment to Service. View recent recipients SERVING BY DOING. Raising money a fun, but hands-on service is even more fulfilling. Helping the handicapped at Camp Horizon, bringing Christmas the children of isolated islands, working in a vision clinic in El Salvador, or matching folks with wheelchairs that allow them to maintain their social lives - these are deeply gratifying - a direct, personal fulfillment you can't achieve any other way. If you don't know what we mean, join our club and we'll show you.
FUN TOGETHER. Lions know how to have fun, both together and with others. Luncheon meetings are for schmoozing, announcements, a bit of roastification, outside speakers on topics of community concern or general interest, getting to know Lions from other communities, and, well .... more schmoozing. Parties are for partying. Board meetings, which all may attend, are for work. And activities, which we also try to make memorable and fun, are for raising money and performing community service. NETWORKING LIONS. Lions are members of the world's largest networked communities. If you are a Lion, you will be welcomed into a community of fellow Lions wherever you travel. Need some hometown-style stability in a career path that will take you all over the country or the world? Welcome to the world of Lions. THE NEXT GENERATION. Young Lions in waiting - high school and college students - are called Leos. Each Leos Club is affiliated with a Lions Club. The Western Washington University Leos Club is affiliated with BCLC. |
